Page Fright by Harry Bruce

Did you know that famed author and comedian Truman Capote refused to fly on any aircraft whose passengers included two nuns? He also refused to begin or end anything on a Friday; allow three cigarette butts in one ashtray; or be anywhere near yellow roses. Famed author Balzac would consume anywhere from 50 to 300 cups of coffee a day… he would later die, due to complications with caffeine poisoning.

These bizarre habits, rituals, and lifestyles of famous writers, are featured in this humorous book by Harry Bruce. I highly enjoyed this book, as it opened up my eyes to the struggles so many writers face. “Finally” I thought, “I’m not alone in my weirdness”. Just like many authors in the book, there are times where I feel the need to dress up in nice clothes, and head out to town to write. Somehow it makes the process seem all the more important.

Page Fright is an amazing read for aspiring writers, and those interested what happens ‘behind the curtain’ of many famous authors and their writing craft. If you think you may have a bizarre habit, just wait until you read this book!
