I totally agree with what you say about eventful living. Better still, you are unique! No one has the range of experiences you do.

I am just trying to learn twitter... I hate it **grins** but then I am rather skeptical of the whole social networking thing.
Screenwriting tips I have found to be some of the most helpful to my writing!!! And yeah I haven't found anything to help me as much as NaNo, but that is because NaNo is ALL about writing **grins** can't improve without doing, right?
Oh Writing is amazing! I will totally check into Page Fright... I also love "new resources" **grins** what does a writer love more than books on writing **giggles** (does that mean I can just read and improve? oh wait, we already determined that doesn't work... drats!)

Heeheehee!

Coffee - yes. I used to have a cup of coffee before getting started - then another, then another. A bit like people used to sharpen pencils. I did a serious turn-around after I counted the number of cups one day. Actually, I never did find what my "normal" count was because I stopped counting after 30 (yes, 30, that was not a typo). I got too scared to have any more that day. I now don't go over 4 cups, so I've got that under control. Whew!

Chewing my nails, no.

Driving. YES. Especially if you love driving, you slip into alpha (brainwaves), kind of like autopilot. Point is, that let's the ideas flow more easily, I think. I do find a lovely long drive in the countryside - I'm in Australia - to be a great way to get over writer's block.

Distracted by technology - guilty.

Feeling sorry for myself. 'Fraid not, although that used to be my biggest "sin". I had to train myself out of it by using positive questions whenever I caught myself being down on myself, example being "What are three of the very best things you'd like to see happen in your future?" Because I used QUESTIONS, I had to give ANSWERS, which directs your thoughts - and if you do that often enough, the negatives largely disappear.

Great post. Cheers!

You raise some very good points here. People too easily forget that getting from "never having picked up a pen before" to "writer of the biggest best seller ever" is a process, a journey.

I've spent forty years writing, and I'm finally away with book one of a series launched and book two almost ready to go. For a long time I thought it wasn't going to happen and I blamed myself for "not being good enough". Learning not to do that is actually one of the best lessons that has come out of it for me.

Actually, looking back over my life so far, I find I am far more interesting than I would have been had I never dared pick up that pen in the first place. Not because of who I am or what I am or what I have done, but purely because of the experiences I've entered into for the sake of research, the things I've leaned through books for the sake of research, and the people I've interacted with - for the sake of research.

So even if I never make the best seller list (and I WILL), I'm a lot wealthier for it spiritually, and all because of the journey, the process. Nobody teaches you THAT either! :) :) :)

Thanks you for saying that. :) Bear in mind, there is major trouble in the publishing industry which has been there for years now (I've just this minute posted an article about writers going around them on my blog "Bloodstone sci fi" - not sure if links are wanted here, so I won't put one up), and that's why there are so many writers now doing it themselves.

What I'm saying is, if anyone has a problem getting accepted, it might not be them that's the problem! It took me years to learn that.

Cheers! :)

I've heard very good things about NaNoWriMo!

Like I said, there ARE some resources you can find that are helpful. Particularly I've enjoyed the tutorials and books by Marilyn Horowitz on the craft of Screenwriting. I have also found that twitter is an invaluable resource for networking with other writers and hearing about their success stories.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend reading On Writing by Stephen King as well as Page Fright by Harry Bruce. They're two of my favourite books about writing.

I totally agree with you in that practicing the craft is the most important thing any one person can do.

Cheers and thanks for commenting!
